Municipal elections are fast-approaching in Ontario and for many, that signals a, “And…?” reaction.
We get it.
It’s not so glamourous at the municipal level. We aren’t electing the next Prime Minister; nor members of Parliament; nor individuals even on a provincial level. It’s local. It feels too small to make a difference, but we would really like to challenge that.
At the municipal level, you have the chance to choose the members at the first line of defense in the housing market crisis (and beyond).
It is very – very, very – difficult to call up the office of Justin Trudeau and request a meeting to discuss interest rates, housing supply, red tape and inflation.
Easier, though, is to call up your locally-elected official and request a meeting on those same topics.
They, then, can move your voice, concerns & experiences up the ladder; ensuring they’re seen and heard in ways you may not have been able to achieve alone.
These elected officials are incredibly valuable in regard to the current housing market crisis. The solution will start with them.
So as you make your way to the polls next month, we ask that you carry that in your mind. The knowledge that this election and these officials matter, and could be the key to resolving this crisis; but only if you vote for the solutions, and those who believe in the solutions – those who believe in:
- Addressing inflation
- Creating honest, meaningful, efficient changes within the housing market
- Reducing red tape across industries that impact the housing market
So in addition to our normal call for social media engagement (follow us on Facebook & Instagram) & donations – so that we can help lobby your needs, wants and rights at a higher governmental level, today we also ask you to vote for home.
To vote, even at the most local of levels, for the individuals who will drive the change, and who will take your demands, and shape them into realities, for the good of your municipality, and for the good of Canadians everywhere.
