When I Make a Donation to REDCanada, how are my Funds Used?

We use donations in three main ways:

Lobbying: Donated funds used for lobbying are utilized in repeated communications with both MP’s and MPP’s. They are also used to host meeting with Minster staff and teams. Lobby-funds can also be utilized to create and implement plans of action for campaigns.

Content Creation & Program Development: With a skeleton staff currently, we work with external independent writers and creators to develop our marketing, graphic design and written content. Small portions of your donations may be routed here.

Running REDCanada Teams Across the Country: As we continue to grow, funds are delegated to help us do just that – supporting initiatives while in their beginning stages, allowing for team travel as required and covering the low administrative costs we do incur.

What Actionable Steps are Being Taken by REDCanada to Make Meaningful Change Within Canada’s Housing Market?

We love getting the chance to highlight the work we and our wonderful volunteers do, so we’re so thankful that you asked! Currently, we have four main efforts all designed to be as impactful as possible:

Canvasing: Similar to door-to-door knocking you see taking place around election seasons, REDCanada utilizes the power of face-to-face interaction and boots on the ground efforts to not only spread awareness to Canadians about our mission, but to also source potential volunteers, lobbyists and other industry professionals and change-makers.

Social Media Exposure: The unfortunate truth is that young people are most heavily impacted by the housing crisis. The quickest and most direct way we can reach that demographic is through social media platforms – sharing inspiring, fact-based information to help them feel informed and ignited to make change within the market.

Lobbying: Our most direct way to make change on the largest of scales is through lobbying, which we already do, and look forward to developing, within all levels of Canadian governments. Know though that we can’t do this piece without you! We need your voices, your signatures, your most wanted calls to action so that we can be the best possible advocate for Canadians along the way.

Networking Within the Industry: Thankfully, other organizations exist with missions to correct the housing market, and our goal is to partner with as many as possible, building the most far-reaching and robust network of housing market advocates as possible.

In Addition to Getting Involved with REDCanada, What are Some Other ways I can Help Those Impacted by the Housing Crisis and Help Make Change?

Certainly the first thing we would suggest that you do is register with us as a volunteer! Then, once you’ve done that, you can:

Be Vocal on Social Media: Share articles, causes, events and stories that speak to the severity of the housing market crisis and that shine a light on possible fixes and those working to address the issue.

March, Sign and Vote: If you are comfortable, become involved as a housing market advocate. Find marches and petitions that represent change within the market, and always take your power to the polls, voting for candidates who most align with the cause(s) you hold dear.

Write to your Elected Officials: Whether thanking them for their efforts as an advocate for those impacted by the crisis, or (productively) critiquing their stance or voting record and demanding change, write to your elected officials, making your voice heard directly by those making the decisions that most heavily impact the market.

What Would Success Look Like to the REDCanada team?

At REDCanada, we will consider ourselves successful when:

  1. Housing inventory surpasses demand

2. REDCanada is able to help Canadians with housing issues.

3. We are running group homes across the country and helped youth reach their full potential.

4. Supporting Canadians on their journey to homeownership

5. Our lobbying efforts result in changes in legislations that benefit the Canadians
